Time to get underway is getting close.

Time to get underway is getting close.  The past few days we have been gathering provisions and have enough stores onboard to last about four months.  Linda has everything organized with list of what is where.  There are a few last minute projects to finish.  Installing larger fresh water tanks and a box to carry the anchor line below decks are next.  This year’s record rain has made it hard to get outside jobs done.
Tuesday, the 18th, was the first time we left the slip since she was “splashed” in late August.  Actually it’s the first time she has been under her own power in two seasons.  All went well on a short trip down the Sassafras River.
It seems everybody on Chesapeake Bay feels their home river is the prettiest.  We are no exception.  The Sassafras is beautiful with it’s gentle twist and turns, surrounded by high tree lined, golden sandy bluffs and low lying fields.   Watch the skies and the shore line and you will catch a glimpse of the abundant wildlife.  Overhead you may see Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Mallard Ducks and Canada Geese in flight.  Great Blue Herons and Egrets patrol the shallows looking for small fish to eat.   Onshore you will find Deer, Fox, Beaver and Muskrats.  Add to this the colors of October and you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful and serene river.
If all goes well we should be underway around noon on Oct.30.

  1. We got your letter just two days ago and were delighted if not surprised at your goal.

Your church family wishes you God speed and safe journey and may all the winds be gentle. We will be thinking of you and praying for you and looking forward to your return.

    Have fun.
