Friday 2/3/12.                        It was cloudy all day and looked like it would rain any minute.  The temps were in the low 80s with humidity of 85% this morning.  But a steady east breeze made it comfortable.  This was a good day to work on the dinghy motor and fix the fuel pump.  The marina has been unusually busy with boats of every description in and out.  So today is not the time to try out the motor by cruising around the basin.

The breeze was so strong that a boat that was to go into the slip next to us kept being pushed into the wrong slip.  I don’t know why the harbormaster wouldn’t let him go where he was headed (There are about eight empty slips in a row) but he insisted on the slip next to us.  In frustration they just pulled out and went up the river.  I’m not sure if they went to the east basin or what.  I really felt bad for the captain because I’ve been there.

However a couple hours later , with a little lighter wind, a bigger boat came to back into the slip, two down from us, (the one the other boat was lined up for) and slid into the slip without as much as bumping a piling.  I looked to see a lady captain, older than I am, with no concern on her face, guide it into a perfect mooring.  Then after her male crew secured the lines she sat back into her captain’s chair and lit up a cigar.  Linda eyes got like saucers and said to me “Man…I didn’t know they made cigars that big…It that what they call a stogie?”
